the cold spice – 2023

An experimental filmic work, created primarily through imaging techniques and without a camera, revisits mantras of the 1990s. These are enacted in a childlike manner and collide with fragments from other time periods. Turn-of-the-century toys were deep-frozen and recorded using thermographic imaging. A hauntological karaoke scene of the song “Wannabe” emerges: the track and the early success story of the Spice Girls are "covered" by plastic figurines. These ghostly artefacts acquire naive connotations through their layering. The thermal images were partially processed through generative, data-driven methods, resulting in a heavily overinterpreted additional layer.
